LITE Fellowship to enhance support for bilingual pupils

Helen Sadig (Language Centre) and Cecile De Cat (Linguistics & Phonetics) have been awarded an Excellence and Innovation Fellowship at the Leeds Institute for Teaching Excellence for 2018/19 for the project “Building a civic curriculum: Helping local schools better support EAL children through enhanced student impact and teacher CPD”. Helen will design a language training programme to maximise the effectiveness of the Students into Schools (SiS) scheme in terms of EAL support, and offer that training as a CPD opportunity for practitioners in schools. This project aims to achieve real civic impact in the local community and place language support firmly at the centre of the SiS agenda.
